Claypipe Visitor Centre
The Claypipe Visitor Centre is in the village of Knockcroghery which was famous for almost 300 years as a centre for the production of clay pipes or “dudeens.
They were particularly popular at wakes, where trays of tobacco-filled pipes, Guiness and whiskey would be laid out for mourners. Production of the pipes ceased abruptly on June 9th, 1921 when the Black and Tans burned down the village. Here you will see the craft of clay pipes being made using the origial tools and methods.
The Visitor Centre is located on the original site of the last pipe factory where you can enjoy photographs and artefacts relating to this unique facet of our heritage.

- May to September:- Monday – Friday from 10.00 to 18.00
- October to April :- Monday – Friday from 10.00 to 17.00
