Kiting and Sandyachting
This is the third year that the Kiting and Sandyachting Event will be held on the Bettystone beach on 21 and 22 March from 10.00 onwards pending approval.
Last year a very successful weekend was enjoyed on the beach with many spectators coming to see the kites and sand yachts in action. The event is being organised by the IPKSA with the support from Meath County Council.
The event will cover the wind based sports of ‘Kite buggying and Sandyachting’.
Wind and weather permitting the ‘National Fleet’ will compete for places in the Race series, which for those just starting the ‘Club Class’ offers an introduction to not so serious racing and to meet people within the sport.
A kite buggy is a light, purpose-built vehicle powered by a traction kite (power kite). It is single-seated and has one steerable front wheel and two fixed rear wheels. The driver sits in the seat located in the middle of the vehicle and accelerates and slows down by applying steering manoeuvres in coordination with flying manoeuvres of the kite.
Land yachts are three wheeled vehicles which use a sail and work mainly like usual water boats in the way they are sailed, except they are steered by pedals or hand levers. They are sailed from a lying down or seated position.
