Bram Stoker Festival 2018
Freakish Fun For All The Family As Dublin Gets Gloriously Gothic For Bram Stoker Festival
Children and families across Dublin are invited to delve into the darkness and summon the supernatural this October Bank Holiday weekend as Bram Stoker Festival, hosts a series of family friendly spooktacular events. Taking place in venues across the city highlights include Stokerland, a pop-up Victorian fun park, and Sleep No More, a city-centre parade from world-renowned pioneers of imagination and invention Macnas.
The three-day festival will peel back the layers of the city to reveal Stoker’s Dublin. Prepare for a weekend for all the family with walking tours through the lane-ways and hidden steps of the Victorian macabre of the city; literary workshops exploring horror writing with award winning authors for both teens and adults; Stoker-themed theatre, lively discussions on all things vampire, and a highlight being an evening of spooky spectacle from renowned street theatre company Spraoi in the grounds of Dublin Castle.
One of Dublin’s most beautiful city parks, St. Patrick’s Park, opens its Gothic gates over the weekend for Stokerland. With the stunning cathedral as a ghoulish backdrop, this Gothic gathering of fun and games will present the macabre talents of world class street-performers alongside rides and attractions to ensure a fangtastic time for all. Fancy dress is encouraged and don’t forget to take a spooky family portrait in the Victorian Photo studio.
One of Bram Stoker’s favourite Dublin haunts, the magnificent Marsh’s Library, hosts Tales From the Shadows: Gothic Tales. Many things lurk in the shadows and go bump in the night and this beautiful shadow puppet show will shine a light on devious devils, vengeful vampires, gloating goblins and sorrowful spectres to name but a few. If you’re brave enough for some scary stories, come watch the forces of light and darkness do battle.

“The Bram Stoker Festival, through its deliberate child-centric focus fully embraces the imaginative and fantastical realm of the Gothic. Whether it’s fancy dress, storytelling or dramatizations, the genre of Gothic horror is a positive and often educational form of family friendly entertainment, as children are afforded the opportunity to experience first-hand Ireland’s rich Gothic history in a fun and colourful way.”
Whether you’re a city dweller, or a visitor to Dublin for the weekend, the inaugural Bram Stoker Festival is sure to chill your bones in time for Halloween.
