National Botanic Gardensvisitor centre was opened in 2000 with its fine lecture hall and display area with exhibits relating to the history of the gardens, it also a fine new restaurant. The visitor centre is where most of the events are held or start from.

Botanic Gardens Free Events For Children
A series of 2-hour art sessions will revolve around a botanical theme inspired by the season. Each session will involve some close observation of nature, which will inspire an art -making session. A variety of media will be used. Workshops will be held monthly starting at 14.00 – 16.00 at the Education and Visitor Centre. Suitable for ages 8 years and upwards.
Some workshop costs €10 and others are free.

Children’s Art Workshop – Budding Artists (4-7 years)
Join the ‘budding’ artists, a creative workshop especially for younger children taking place once a month, under the attentive eye of artist Niamh Synnott. Children are encouraged to take a closer look at the natural world all around them to inspire fun art-making activities.

Children’s Art Workshop – Hardy Annuals (8-12 years)
Why not join them for a guided discovery of the natural world where you can observe, engage, and be inspired by your surroundings. Participants in this art programme will be encouraged to use materials in fun and interesting ways while taking inspiration from the world of plants on show at Glasnevin.

Explore the Gardens by following this self-guided trail designed particularly for families. Discover the joys of Spring through the Gardens’ biodiversity – everything from daffodils to ducks!
Workshop – ‘Flower Pressing’
A hands-on workshop for children on how to gather and press flowers and use them to make attractive pictures and cards.

- Summre March – October – Monday – Friday – 09.00 – 17.00 and Saturday, Sunday, Public Holidays – 10.00 18.00
Glasshouse Opening Hours
The Glasshouses close at 5pm on weekdays and 5.45pm at weekends
Guide Tours
- Free Guided Tours every Sunday at 12.00 pm and 2.30 pm.
- Pre-booked Guided Tours available for groups. Cost: €2 per person.
- For other public tours please check at the desk at the Education and Visitor Centre.
- There is a film introducing the Botanic Gardens, which is usually available for viewing anytime.
- Please ring the Visitor Centre if you have any specific requirements.

The National Botanic Gardens lie just 3.5 kilometers north of Dublin city centre. there are four bus services that will get you to the Gardens
By Bus
- No.4 Blackrock, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Lansdowne Road ,O’ Connell Street ,Phibsboro – Botanic Gardens
- No. 13 Merrion Square, Pearse St, O’Connell St., Drumcondra Rail Station, Harts’s Coner – Botanic Gardens
- No.19 Bulfin road, Leonard’s Corner, O’Connell St., Phibsboro – Botanic Gardens
- No. 83 Kimmage,Sundrive road, Rathmines, College Street, Phibsboro – Botanic Gardens
BY Car
From the south, or City centre: leave Dublin via the Drumcondra road (N1) and turn left at Botanic Avenue, just before crossing the river Tolka, ALTERNATIVELY, leave the city via Phibsborough, on the Finglas road (N2), turning right onto Botanic Road just after Hart’s Corner, after passing over the Royal Canal.The Botanic Gardens are close to the junction of Botanic Avenue and Botanic Road.
Car parking facilities are available for a flat fee of € 2.
