Discover Dún Laoghaire this Christmas as it is all dressed up this year for the exciting Christmas Festival from the 30th November and running through to the 23th December presented by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. It will sparkle with family fun and is sure to make your festive spirit soar.
Santa arrives at the Harbour Plaza on Saturday November 30th to officially turn on the Christmas lights, with Christmas Carols and festive fun from 5:45 pm. The event itself starts at 4pm in Harbour Plaza with live music.
Dún Laoghaire is all set to be ‘electrifying’ again this Christmas as the iconic Ferris Wheel takes centre stage at the annual Christmas Festival presented by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. A 55 ft retro Ferris Wheel built in 1958 and reported to have featured in the original ‘Grease’ movie is a highlight.
In keeping with the Hollywood theme, the festival also features vintage Chair-O-Planes that were used by AMC in the making of TV series ‘Into the Badlands’ starring Daniel Wu.
The iconic Ferris Wheel and chair-o-planes will provide spectacular views of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour this Christmas with a touch of nostalgia, a sense of adventure and a whole lot of ‘Greased Lightning!’

The Vintage Carnival
The vintage carnival will be placed at Moran Park beside dlr LexIcon to compliment the traditional Dún Laoghaire Christmas Market which runs from Saturday November 30th to Sunday December 23rd It will include classic family attractions full of nostalgic charm such as colourful retro Hobby Horses, candyfloss, a rollercoaster, Santa’s Post Box and a charming Christmas market with a traditional and nostalgic theme bringing the magic of Christmas and a winter wonderland for the festive season.
Discover … Santa’s Magical Grotto
As in previous years, Santa’s Grotto itself will be housed on the first floor of the Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre welcoming children and parents alike from Sun Nov 30th right up to Christmas Eve and early booking is advised.
Dun Laoghaire Christmas Markets
The Dún Laoghaire Christmas market is a feast for the seasonal senses as carefully selected vendors sell authentic hand-made gifts and delicious treats every weekend from November 30th to December 23rd on the Metals and opposite dlr LexIcon from 11am to 7pm.
Aromas of gourmet sausages, Hungarian Lángos, German Gluhwein, Fresh Falafel, Gingerbread and steaming hot chocolate will fill the air as you wander through the Christmas Market. If you are searching for the perfect Christmas present the market has hand-crafted gifts and decorations, jewellery, limited edition photographic prints, Hurling watches and clocks, Trendy Socks, PaperBear Greeting cards, knitwear, fragrances and hemp products for people and pets. Its a whole host of very special quality gifts and treats that are not mass-produced but hand crafted with love.
Blessing of the Crib
A successful and amazing Christmas festival shouldn’t miss a Traditional Crib. The crib at St. Michael’s Church, Marine Road will be a must-visit festival centrepiece. .
