The Hugh Lane Gallery

The Hugh Lane Gallery Dublin is run by Dublin Corporation and is one of Dublin’s best kept secrets for a family day out in the city. The gallery is located in Charlemont House at the top of Parnell Square in Dublin 1 (Parnell Square is at the top of O Connell Street) and was the first ever public gallery of Modern Art in the world.

The original collection of art assembled by the founder, Hugh Lane has been expanded and so now the Gallery houses over 2,000 pieces of artwork, including works by Monet and Degas and the complete Francis Bacon Studio.
But Hugh Lane also run many events and workshops for children, making it a great place for some family fun with a difference in the city.
The collections currently on view at the Hugh Lane Gallery include:
  • The Sean Scully Gallery – featuring the abstract art of this Irish artist.
  • The Stained Glass Room – which includes “The Eve of St Agnes” by acclaimed Irish stained glass artist, Harry Clarke.
  • The permanent Hugh Lane Collection
  • The Francis Bacon Studio. In 1998 the entire contents of the Francis Bacon studio in London was donated to the Hugh Lane Gallery where it was meticulously reassembled and is on display.
