Midsummer Fair in Meeting House Square

Picnic On The Grass In Temple Bar

Meeting House Square will appear like never before as we cover it in grass for one day only! Stalls will be decorated with flowers and ribbons to create the feel of Midsummer. The fair features Temple Bar’s three outdoor markets brought to you by Temple Bar Cultural Trust along with additional stalls from across the country

Food at the Fair

The Midsummer Fair will be the perfect spot for lunch on Father’s Day — follow the scent into Meeting House Square where you will find a roasting hog on a spit, cool down with Burke’s Farm ice-cream made using milk from the family’s own Jersey cows and experience Raclette Irish-style with vegetables and Knockdrinna farmhouse cheese. Malone Fruit Farmers will have everything fruity from fresh strawberries to chutneys, jams and honey. ‘Dinner Jackets’ will serve freshly-baked Irish potatoes from an Edwardian-style baked potato oven and tea, coffee and hot chocolate served by Coffee Angel Ltd. Other foods, available from Temple Bar Food Market on the day include Corleggy Cheese; Llewellyn’s Orchid Produce; St Martin’s Shellfish; Noirin’s Bakehouse and Natasha’s Living Foods.

Handmade Jewellery, Hats, Visual Art, Books & Flowers

Contemporary jewellery design will be presented by Ann Tyrrell, Raasay Jones, Rebecca Howles and Adam King from Designer Mart at Cow’s Lane. Milliner, John Shevlin, will showcase an array of handmade hats and John O’Connor will exhibit his graffiti-inspired paintings. Iwona Dabek will display her stained glass pieces and handmade soaps alongside Judith Wolff’s fresh flowers, foliage & herbs. Traders from the Temple Bar Book Market will have a wide selection of new and second-hand books, including special interest and rare one-off editions as well as popular children’s classics.

Music at the fair

Drumming beats will hoist you into Meeting House Square with the five-piece samba swinging outfit ‘The Mad Hatters’ with their 3-feet tall flower adorned hats! Musicians Declan Quinn, Fergal Chambers and Gerry Quinn from ‘The Irish House Party’, Dublin’s most unique music and dance show, will perform a series of jigs, reels and hornpipes for a knees-up at 12noon.

Children’s Entertainment

It will be impossible to miss Mr Whizzy and his friend the Juggling Jester as they take to the streets of Temple Bar from 1pm. At 2pm ‘The One Man Show’ will be bursting with children’s entertainment value. Children between 3-9 years will be entertained with magic, Punch & Judy, games, gags and dancing. They can take away memories from their day at the fair with free face painting and their very own animal shaped balloon!

Maypole Dancing

Traditionally, Maypole dancing is a custom at this time of year to celebrate the high-point of summer. Drumreilly Community Group from Co. Leitrim are visiting Temple Bar to give a very special performance of their Maypole dance and show us how it’s done at 4.30pm! This is a performance not to be missed!
