West Clare Railway Centre
West Clare Railway has been restored to provide a fun day out for families and school tours.
The West Clare Railway Centre witt let you re-live the Percy French experience and visit Moyasta Junction station house where the inspiration came for one of the best known Irish song “Are Ye Right, There, Michael?” West Clare Railway has now laid two miles of track and train rides are now available after 40 yrs.
The highlight- One of the original West Clare Railway steam engines “The Sliabh Callan” brought back to it’s former glory is back on track burning coal and carrying visitors from near far down memory lane(track!)
There are two “1892 style” carriages with a capacity of up to 80 passengers being pulled by a small diesel locomotive. Passengers get a four mile round trip, a tour of the newly refurbished Railway Station and a chance to see some film footage rom the 1950s when the train ran.In the station house there are exhibitions and a craft shop where one can buy souvenirs and crafts made by local artists. The old dining car is where tea and coffee are served
Be apart of The West Clare Railway by sponsoring part of the extention of the railway or you can purchase/sponsor a sleeper and you will get a beautifull certificate.
