Smithfield On Ice is all wrapped up this year in a winter wonderland as Ireland’s original ice rink captures the magic of Christmas with a magnificent themed Christmas village. The famous cobblestones of Smithfield square are once again transformed into a world-class professional ice rink over the Christmas period but this year it takes on a magical feel as the whole square sparkles with festive fun.

Visitors enter the event through an Ice Igloo at the northern entrance to the square and themed entrances around the square. Visitors can then make their way through the food and crafts quarter which heightens the senses with German Hot Dogs, Belgian hot chocolate and marshmallows, flowing Belgian chocolate fountains, cappuccinos and introducing baby chinos for kids. A performance area in the centre of the village features choirs, bands and special guests. Visitors can reflect on the true meaning of Christmas at the beautiful nativity scene and soak up the magical atmosphere in the reflection area.

The enormous 40 foot Christmas tree at the centre of the village completes the magic of the Smithfield On Ice Winter Wonderland. Watch out for other entertainment surprises as they unfold over the seven week duration of the event.

Facilities And Attractions At Smithfield On Ice

Apart from the obvious ice skating rink, a big highlight at Smithfield On Ice this year is Santa’s Workshop where children can clock in to help Santa’s elves, paint their own unique Ginger Bread Man all the way from the North Pole and then meet Santa himself for gifts and photos.

After you go ice skating you can relax in the rink side cafe (or instead of skating if indeed that not for you) and sip a hot chocolate. The rink side cafe serves snacks and food all day.

Smithfield On Ice is home to the Ice Penguins who lend a helping hand to fledgling skaters so there is no need to fear the ice. You can get ice skating lessons from the Ice Penguins and then feel free to enjoy the rest of the Christmas Skating Season with your newfound skills.
